Waymo to Launch Robotaxi Service in Singapore by 2028

Waymo, an Alphabet-owned autonomous driving company, will launch a commercial robotaxi service in Singapore in 2028. This expansion represents the company's first entry into Southeast Asia and is part of a global rollout that includes planned launches in London by late 2026, Tokyo in 2027, and Munich in late 2027.

Fully electric Jaguar I-Pace vehicles will arrive in Singapore in the coming months. Starting in 2027, human safety drivers will conduct autonomous testing and mapping to adapt the technology to local road layouts and monsoon conditions. To begin commercial operations, Waymo must obtain approval from the Land Transport Authority and pass safety assessments at the Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research.

Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana praised Singapore's transportation ecosystem, stating that the city-state has built one of the safest and most forward-thinking systems in the world. Mawakana noted that Singapore's focus on reliability and sustainability mirrors the way Waymo has built its own technology and service.
