Nasir El-Rufai Addresses Silence of Allies Amid Legal Troubles

Former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai issued a statement on September 23, 2026, titled "My Relationships and the Aftermath," addressing the silence of former colleagues, friends, and family members during his current legal and political adversity.

El-Rufai noted that he previously supported others at a considerable personal cost, guided by his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, and personal values. While he asserted that this support was not based on expectations of reciprocity, he acknowledged that some associates are now choosing to remain silent, deny their relationships with him, or attempt to rewrite history.

Despite these experiences, El-Rufai stated that he bears no resentment toward those who have chosen not to support him and does not seek revenge or retribution for perceived ingratitude. He maintained that he has no regrets about his past actions and believes that adversity has illuminated the nature of certain relationships. El-Rufai concluded by stating that he leaves ultimate accountability and judgment to Almighty Allah.
