Thousands Protest Across Australia for Global Day for Gaza

Pro-Palestinian supporters gathered in 27 Australian cities to demand sanctions against Israel and an end to military trade as the Gaza conflict enters its third year.

Thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters gathered in 27 cities and towns across Australia on October 11, 2026, to mark the Global Day for Gaza. The rallies, held in major hubs including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, and Hobart, occurred as the conflict entered its third year following the October 7 Hamas attack. In Sydney's Hyde Park, organizers estimated 5,000 people attended before marching through the city center.

Mehreen Faruqi, a senator for the Australian Greens, accused the federal Labor government of complicity, claiming the administration has failed to sanction Israel or stop military trade. Other demonstrators called for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and criticized Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for a perceived lack of action. In response to claims regarding arms shipments, the Australian Department of Defence stated that the country has not supplied weapons or ammunition to Israel since the conflict began, and not for at least the past five years.

The protests coincided with reports from the Gaza health ministry that over 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and 175,000 injured, while the UN estimated 1.9 million people have been displaced. Speakers at the events, including activist Grace Tame and representative Yasmine Johnson, emphasized the need to stop the violence and remember the victims of the massacres.
