Bhupender Yadav Urges Paris Agreement Implementation at Pre-COP31
Indian Minister Bhupender Yadav called for accelerated Paris Agreement implementation and closed resource gaps during Pre-COP31 preparatory meetings in Fiji.
Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav called for the accelerated implementation of the Paris Agreement during Pre-COP31 preparatory meetings in Fiji. Leading the Indian delegation, Yadav emphasized the necessity of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, arguing that this goal requires commensurate means of implementation.
Yadav urged participating parties to fulfill climate commitments in true letter and spirit and to share success stories regarding large-scale adaptation and high-impact mitigation. He noted that there is a need to identify and develop consensus on existing gaps in understanding, specifically those between science, traditional knowledge, community practices, and available resources.
On the sidelines of the event, which is co-hosted by Australia, Fiji, and Tuvalu, Yadav held discussions with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, and European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra. These talks focused on clean energy, just transition, and climate finance. The preparatory sessions serve as a lead-up to the annual UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) scheduled for November in Antalya, Türkiye.
