Senator Roger Marshall Urges ICE to Coordinate Kansas Operations

Republican Senator Roger Marshall called for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to coordinate more closely with local law enforcement during federal operations in southwest Kansas. The request follows reports of ICE agents executing warrants in Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, and Great Bend.

Governing bodies and municipal law enforcement from Liberal, Garden City, and Dodge City issued a joint statement on Wednesday claiming they received no advance warning of the operations. They stated they possess no authority or operational information regarding the federal activities. While Marshall supports the execution of federal warrants, he argued that collaboration with local sheriffs and police is necessary to ensure the safety of officers and residents.

Senator Jerry Moran also urged coordination between federal and local authorities. Moran noted that Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin assured him the warrants target individuals charged with criminal activity. These developments occur as the 2026 Kansas Senate race has become competitive, with Democratic candidate Adam Hamilton leading Marshall 45% to 43% in a recent Emerson College poll. The situation highlights internal GOP tensions, as some Republican lawmakers have criticized the Trump administration's immigration enforcement policies as having gone too far.
