Presumptive Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Maine Troy Jackson is facing scrutiny over a history of volatile behavior during his tenure as Maine Senate president. Reports from CNN and the Washington Post detail multiple incidents of instability, including a 2021 episode where Jackson threw a plastic water bottle during a dispute regarding prescription drug pricing.

Further reports highlight a 2024 confrontation with then-House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross, which ended with Jackson being removed from her office. While Jackson has apologized for these incidents, his campaign disputes claims that the water bottle was aimed at a colleague, acknowledging only that frustration occasionally overwhelmed him.

Jackson is positioned to replace Graham Platner, who withdrew from the race following sexual assault allegations. He is set to challenge incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins in the November election and has already secured pledges from more than 450 of 500 delegates ahead of the party convention in Bangor.
