Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Target $1 Billion Trade Goal
President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev agreed to target $1 billion in trade and establish a dedicated Caspian Sea transport corridor.
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan visited Tashkent to hold bilateral talks and a joint press statement with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. During the visit, Aliyev praised Uzbekistan's rapid socioeconomic development and infrastructure growth, stating that the two nations are pursuing parallel development paths that enable deeper cooperation.
The leaders set a trade turnover target of $1 billion, which Aliyev expects the countries to reach within a few years. To facilitate this growth, Mirziyoyev proposed the creation of a dedicated Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan transport corridor in the Caspian Sea managed by a single operator.
This initiative, discussed during the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council, includes the acceleration of a joint fleet to support the broader Middle Corridor. Transport ministers have been tasked with executing the detailed plans developed by the Intergovernmental Commission to deepen trade and logistics cooperation between the two nations.
