Ukraine Deploys AI Drones to Counter Russian Jamming

Ukraine is deploying drones with target-lock capabilities that allow aircraft to autonomously complete attacks after losing connection with human operators. This shift addresses the challenge of Russian electronic warfare and signal jamming, which frequently disrupt remote-control links.

These systems, including F-Drones' LITAVR and Perennial Autonomy's Hornet, utilize machine vision and artificial intelligence to track and strike targets previously designated by humans. Other companies, such as The Fourth Law and Buntar Aerospace, provide modules for automated terminal guidance and navigation via satellite maps to enhance precision.

Mykhailo Fedorov, the former Defense Minister of Ukraine, stated that artificial intelligence is a critical area of competition to defeat Russia, arguing that autonomy allows a smaller military to increase combat effectiveness and scale operations. While full automation is not yet standard, Frontline Robotics predicts that nearly autonomous battlefield operations will be viable within 12 months.
