University of Delhi Sets DUSU Election Date for September 18

The University of Delhi announced that the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections for the 2026-27 academic session will be held on September 18, with vote counting scheduled for September 19. Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh appointed Professor Raj Kishore Sharma as chief election officer and Professor Rajesh Singh as chief returning officer to oversee the process across approximately 47 affiliated colleges.

Candidates must file nomination papers, affidavits, and a 500-rupee demand draft by September 10 at 3 pm. Following scrutiny, the final candidate list will be published on September 11, and students may withdraw nominations until noon that day. Voting will be split into two sessions: 8:30 am to 1 pm for day students and 3 pm to 7:30 pm for evening students. The university stated the process will adhere to the DUSU Code of Conduct, the Constitution of DUSU, and the Supreme Court's Lyngdoh Committee recommendations.

Major student organizations, including the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and Left-leaning groups such as the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Students' Federation of India (SFI), are currently scouting candidates. Campaigns are expected to focus on demands for the disbanding of the National Testing Agency, the rollback of the National Education Policy, metro concessions, and improved employment access. In the previous 2025 election, ABVP won three of the four central panel posts, while NSUI secured the vice-president position.
