US and Israel Plan Military Strikes Against Iran
The United States and Israel are planning renewed military strikes against Iran, triggering a rise in global oil prices and US evacuations in Saudi Arabia.
Oil prices rose Thursday following reports that the United States and Israel are planning renewed military strikes against Iran. Brent crude futures increased 1.71% to $110.67 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude gained 1.42% to $98.53.
U.S. officials indicate that the two militaries have developed plans for a "short but intensive" operation scheduled for execution after next month's midterm elections. The planned strikes target Iran in response to regional tensions.
In a related development, the United States Department of State ordered non-emergency government employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia. The department attributed this evacuation order to an increase in attacks on civilian targets conducted by Iran-aligned Houthis.
