LNG Carrier Al Mayeda Struck by Unidentified Objects in Persian Gulf
Nakilat reports its LNG carrier Al Mayeda was struck by unidentified objects near the Strait of Hormuz despite prior safe passage negotiations between Pakistan and Iran.
The Qatar Gas Transport Company, also known as Nakilat, reported that its Marshall Islands-flagged liquefied natural gas carrier, Al Mayeda, was struck by unidentified objects on the evening of October 30. The vessel was transiting the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz while transporting cargo from Qatar to Pakistan.
Despite the attack, the company stated the vessel remains safe and operational. No crew members were injured, and there was no resulting environmental damage. Nakilat is currently assessing the impact of the incident and maintaining contact with regional maritime security authorities to ensure the safety of the personnel on board.
Reports indicate that the Government of Pakistan had negotiated with Iran to secure safe passage for the ship. Although Iranian authorities reportedly provided a green light just hours before the incident, the Al Mayeda was attacked as it approached the waterway.
