Emerald AI Raises $150 Million to Optimize Data Center Power
Emerald AI raised $150 million to provide software that helps data centers adjust energy consumption based on utility grid demand.
Emerald AI announced a $150 million funding round on Tuesday, bringing the artificial intelligence start-up's valuation to $1.05 billion. The round was co-led by venture firms DCVC and Energize Capital, with additional participation from Nvidia, Samsung Ventures, GE Vernova, and Salesforce Ventures.
Founded by CEO Varun Sivaram and chief scientist Ayse Coskun, the company develops proprietary software powered by AI agents. This technology allows data centers to flexibly adjust their energy consumption in response to utility grid demand, aiming to reduce the strain on power grids caused by the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure.
The company has already tested its product at five data centers, including sites operated by partners Nvidia and Oracle, and has secured contracts in California and Virginia. Silicon Valley Power has already enlisted the start-up to manage rising energy demand from high-consumption customers such as Intel and Nvidia.
