Samsung Galaxy Z8 Series Hits Record 1.44 Million Preorders

Samsung Electronics recorded a record 1.44 million preorders for its Galaxy Z8 foldable series in South Korea, driven largely by the new Z Fold 8 model.

Samsung Electronics recorded 1.44 million preorders for its new Galaxy Z8 foldable smartphone series in South Korea between July 28 and August 3, 2026. This volume sets a new record for the company's smartphone lineup, surpassing the previous high of 1.38 million set by the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019. The lineup includes the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 accounted for approximately 70 percent of total preorders, with its new 4:3 aspect ratio and more compact form factor attracting new customers and those switching from conventional bar-type smartphones. While the Z Fold 8 Ultra features high-end specifications, including a 200MP main camera and a 5,000mAh battery, reviewers indicate the standard Z Fold 8 is more user-friendly. Samsung also observed a significant increase in female buyers aged 10 to 40.

This surge in demand arrives as Samsung's Mobile Experience business reported its first-ever quarterly operating loss of approximately 700 billion won in the second quarter, attributed to rising memory prices. Despite higher retail costs driven by a global DRAM and NAND shortage and a lack of aggressive trade-in deals, Samsung is increasing production to meet demand. The company expects strong sales to continue until Apple unveils its first foldable iPhone in early September. The Z8 series will begin a global rollout across more than 100 countries on August 7.
