Pretti Family Accuses DOJ of Shielding Federal Agents
Michael and Susan Pretti demand accountability from the Department of Justice after federal agents killed their son in Minneapolis.
The parents of a nurse killed by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis are accusing the Trump administration of withholding evidence and shielding the officers responsible. During a press conference on October 27, Michael and Susan Pretti alleged that government officials misled them and slandered their son's memory to cover up a crime. While the administration initially characterized Alex Pretti as an armed domestic terrorist, bystander video revealed he was holding a cellphone and was shot in the back.
Simultaneously, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty is engaged in a legal battle with the federal government to obtain evidence regarding the deaths of Pretti and another citizen, Renee Good. Moriarty has sued for access to materials, including grand jury information, which she alleges the government has withheld.
The United States Department of Justice has defended its process, stating that the timing of evidence sharing is consistent with standard investigative procedures. The agency maintains that communications with family members typically occur only at later stages of a case, such as during indictment, trial, or sentencing, rather than during an active investigation.
