Luzerne County Council to Present Proposed 2027 Budget

Luzerne County Council will introduce the proposed 2027 budget on October 13, alongside votes on property sales and natural gas grant allocations.

The Luzerne County Council will present the proposed 2027 budget via an ordinance during its meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Wilkes-Barre. County Manager Romilda Crocamo plans to distribute the budget books during the session, though the administration has not yet disclosed the proposed property tax rate or whether a real estate tax increase will be recommended.

The proposal follows a September update from Budget and Finance Division Head Mary Roselle, which detailed requests for two new positions, nine replacement positions, and 25 compensation changes. Crocamo has previously noted that fiscal constraints will require difficult trade-offs between infrastructure needs and departmental demands.

Beyond the budget, the council will vote on the $281,000 sale of a county-owned building at 54 W. Union St. to MAHS Real Estate Ventures LLC and the allocation of $230,030 in Act 13 Marcellus Legacy Fund grants to seven projects, including the SPCA of Luzerne County and the Luzerne County Historical Society. The council will also vote to terminate a federal American Rescue Plan Act allocation to the Keystone Mission, citing pending litigation and serious compliance deficiencies.

Additional agenda items include a $146,952 earmark for recovery housing provided by XT Enterprises. The council has scheduled further budget hearings for October 20 and November 17, with final adoption set for December 8.
