Keralam Marks Independence Day with Women's Safety Initiative

Chief Minister VD Satheesan inaugurated ReSurge - Safe Women, Safe Kerala, a two-day program organized by the Keralam Women and Child Development Department. The initiative, which ran from the night of August 14 into August 15, focuses on women's safety and the reclamation of public spaces during nighttime hours.

The program includes self-defense training led by police, health and entrepreneurship awareness sessions, and public displays such as a women's bullet rider rally and cycling events by the She Cycling collective. Minister Bindu Krishna promoted the event's core message that freedom and safety for women must extend to the nighttime.

Separately, Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan marked India's 80th Independence Day by hoisting the national flag at the MLA office in the Pinarayi Convention Centre in Kannur.
