AMD Shares Recover as AI Revenue Surges 107%
Advanced Micro Devices reports a 50% revenue increase and a massive GPU supply deal with OpenAI amid a broader semiconductor sector sell-off.
Advanced Micro Devices reported second-quarter revenue of $11.5 billion, a 50% year-over-year increase, driven largely by a 107% surge in data center revenue to $6.7 billion. This growth stems from high demand for EPYC server processors and Instinct AI accelerators, positioning the company as a primary alternative for AI computing.
To further expand its AI footprint, the company committed to supplying OpenAI with 6 gigawatts of GPUs. This agreement includes a warrant for up to 160 million shares. Based on these fundamentals, the company issued third-quarter revenue guidance of approximately $13 billion.
Despite these gains, the stock has faced recent volatility. Shares are currently trading near $465, which is a threefold increase from a 52-week low of $149.22 but remains 20% below the June 30 peak of $584.73. This recent decline is attributed to a broader chip sector sell-off linked to rising long-term Treasury yields.
