Nissan Launches Tekton SUV in India to Drive Global Exports

Nissan launched the Tekton midsize SUV in India, aiming for 100,000 domestic sales and 100,000 exports annually from its Chennai production hub.

Following a July 8 announcement, Nissan Motor India officially launched the Tekton midsize SUV at a global premiere in Mumbai on July 9, 2026. Nicknamed the "Baby Patrol" for its design inspiration from the flagship Nissan Patrol, the Tekton is a badge-engineered version of the Renault Duster. It is built on the CMF-B platform and manufactured at a Renault-Nissan facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The SUV is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.59 lakh across six variants. It offers two turbocharged petrol engine options: a 100 hp 1.0-litre and a 163 hp 1.3-litre. The vehicle earned a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, featuring standard six airbags and electronic stability control, with Level 2 ADAS available in the top-spec Tekna+ trim. Bookings opened on July 9 with deliveries starting July 20.

As part of the "Re: Nissan" transformation plan and a 700 million Euro investment by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the company intends to use India as a production hub for 50 global markets, including Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa announced a target of 100,000 domestic sales and 100,000 exports annually. Nissan further plans to expand its portfolio to four vehicles by early 2027, including a seven-seat SUV, and introduce an electric vehicle by 2028.
