Meta Stock Offering Eases AI Credit Market Volatility

Meta Platforms reduced credit market volatility by choosing a $95 billion stock offering over a bond deal as investors eye upcoming hyperscaler earnings.

Meta Platforms eased credit market volatility regarding artificial intelligence debt by pursuing a $95 billion stock offering instead of a large bond deal. This decision helped tighten AI-related credit-default swap spreads, providing temporary relief to investors concerned about the funding of massive AI infrastructure.

Despite the relief, investors remain focused on the capital expenditure trajectories and free cash flow forecasts of major hyperscalers. Alphabet Inc. and Amazon.com are scheduled to report quarterly results on Wednesday and Thursday, with analysts expecting continued negative free cash flow due to heavy AI spending.

Market attention also turns to Oracle's Investor Day on Wednesday. Because Oracle maintains a BBB-1 rating, it is more stressed than its A-rated peers, making the event a critical test for investment-grade tech credit. Meanwhile, S&P Global Ratings has warned that a lack of transparency regarding off-balance sheet arrangements for chip financing and data centers may be obscuring the full extent of corporate obligations.
