US Ambassador Urges India to Build Automotive Plants in US
US Ambassador Sergio Gor called for deeper automotive cooperation and reciprocal market access during the 66th ACMA Annual Session in India.
U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor called for a shift in the automotive relationship between the United States and India, moving from simple component trade toward joint technology development and co-designing the future of mobility. Speaking at the 66th Annual Session of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India, Gor urged Indian companies to establish R&D centers and greenfield manufacturing facilities within the U.S. to serve as a launch pad for global expansion.
Gor emphasized that the two nations are working toward a trade partnership based on fairness, reciprocity, and mutual benefits. He highlighted the Pact Silica declaration as a key mechanism for creating an innovation-friendly regulatory environment to facilitate cross-border investment for entrepreneurs and companies.
To further these discussions on market access and investment, India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is expected to travel to the United States at the end of September. These engagements will take place alongside G20 talks to continue progress on trade-related issues and economic cooperation.
