Google Launches AI Call for Me Feature for Pixel 11

Google launched Call for Me, an experimental AI feature that enables the Gemini assistant to place phone calls to businesses for users. The tool is initially available to Pixel 11 owners in the United States who hold a Gemini subscription and are enrolled in the Phone by Google app's public beta.

The AI can navigate automated phone menus, wait on hold, and conduct conversations to complete tasks such as checking product availability or making restaurant reservations. The feature utilizes the user's own phone number and the Gemini Live voice. Users can monitor the interaction through a live transcript and intervene to take over the call at any time.

Google is deploying the feature at a small scale to evaluate how the AI manages accents, noisy environments, and the fact that "real-world conversations are nuanced". The company stated that the tool will not be used to call emergency services.
