BrahMos Aerospace nears Vietnam deal and boosts domestic production
BrahMos Aerospace Chief Jaiteerth Joshi announced final-stage export talks with Vietnam and a shift to indigenous missile booster production in India.
Jaiteerth Joshi, Chief of BrahMos Aerospace, announced on June 18, 2026, that export negotiations for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile with Vietnam are in the final stages, requiring only minor clearances. Speaking in Nagpur, Joshi indicated that the company is also in advanced discussions with other countries across eastern and western regions.
During the announcement, BrahMos Aerospace and Solar Industries India Ltd flagged off the 100th indigenous booster manufactured in India. This milestone marks a transition from importing boosters from Russia to domestic production. Following a 2018 technology transfer, production scaled from one booster per month to approximately 60. Solar Industries has also developed indigenous warheads currently undergoing trials.
Joshi revealed that Russia is seeking to induct the BrahMos missile into its own armed forces and increase production requirements, with Indian industry set to augment Russia's capacity. He also noted that the missile recently underwent its first combat validation against an adversary during Operation Sindoor.
To improve efficiency, value engineering over the last 18 months has reduced raw material costs by 24% and manufacturing costs by 10%. Future developments will focus on the BrahMos-NG and extended-range variants as part of India's mission to reduce reliance on imported defense equipment.
