India Allocates Rs 277 Crore to Digitalize 500,000 MSMEs
The Indian government will invest Rs 277 crore by 2027 to onboard 500,000 small businesses onto the ONDC platform, targeting 50 percent women-led enterprises.
The Government of India has allocated Rs 277 crore by 2027 to onboard 500,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) onto the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform. Manoj Mohan Sinha, Zonal Manager of MSME for the Government of India, announced the plan during an awareness program in Baripada, Odisha, stating that 50 percent of the onboarded enterprises will be women-led.
The initiative aims to fully digitalize the MSME sector to drive national economic growth. The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises partnered with the National Small Industries Corporation as the implementing agency to organize the event and facilitate the transition to the digital marketplace.
Local officials highlighted the potential for regional economic impact in Mayurbhanj, which already hosts up to 16,000 registered MSMEs. Rasmi Rajalaxmi Bhanja Deo noted that the program would increase livelihoods and the market value of local products by expanding their reach from Odisha to national and international markets.
