Iranian Strikes Cause Billions in Damage to U.S. Intelligence

Iranian missile and drone strikes have caused billions of dollars in unprecedented damage to United States intelligence facilities and surveillance equipment across the Middle East. The attacks targeted over 100 sites, including a CIA station in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and an intelligence center in Iraq's Sulaymaniyah Province. The destruction affected critical radar systems, such as an AN/TPY-2 radar in Jordan and an AN/FPS-12 phased array radar in Qatar, with further damage reported in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

Iran utilized satellite and electronic intelligence provided by Russia and China to target these assets. U.S. officials describe the destruction as the most severe the CIA has faced since its 1947 establishment, with infrastructure repairs alone estimated to exceed $5 billion. In response, the United States Department of War requested $67 billion in emergency funding in July to replenish advanced missile defenses, while Congress has been forced to allocate additional funds for restoration.

The conflict began in February 2026 following joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and the assassination of the Iranian Supreme Leader. Although the U.S. and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 17 to end the conflict, the agreement collapsed following alleged U.S. violations in southern Iran and disputes regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities have since suspended all diplomatic contact with Washington, and the U.S. may now shift its focus toward economic warfare rather than new military strikes.
