Crowley and Tiffany Clash in Final Week of Wisconsin Race

Democratic candidate David Crowley and Republican Tom Tiffany launch statewide bus tours and debate transportation funding in a tight race for Governor of Wisconsin.

Democratic Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Republican U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany have launched statewide bus tours as the race for Governor of Wisconsin enters its final week. A September Marquette Law School poll shows Crowley leading Tiffany by three percentage points among likely voters.

During their only gubernatorial debate, the candidates clashed over transportation funding. Crowley stated he would be open to implementing toll roads and new user fees to create a permanent funding source. Tiffany rejected these options, claiming the state has sufficient funds through the budgeting process, despite records showing he previously supported a tolling feasibility study as a state senator.

Campaign rhetoric has focused on affordability and political alignment. Tiffany is promoting an eight-point plan for affordability and accountability, while Crowley has criticized Tiffany's ties to Donald Trump and Trump-linked megadonors. Both candidates have faced scrutiny over data center tax incentives; Republicans have labeled Crowley "Data Center Dave," while Democrats point to Tiffany's vote for the SPEED Act, which provided a $68 billion tax break for the industry.

The gubernatorial contest coincides with a Democratic effort to seize control of the Wisconsin legislature for the first time in nearly 20 years to pursue expanded public school funding and enshrined abortion rights.
