Osun Candidates Pledge Reform Ahead of August 15 Election

Candidates for the Osun State governorship election presented their platforms during Arise TV town hall meetings on Tuesday, focusing on security and social welfare ahead of the August 15 vote.

Bola Oyebamiji, representing the All Progressives Congress, pledged to eliminate hunger and poverty through targeted investments in health, education, and agriculture. Drawing on his experience as a former Commissioner for Finance and Managing Director of the Osun State Investment Company, Oyebamiji emphasized a governance approach that serves the entire population regardless of city or area.

Competing candidate Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress focused his platform on ending political thuggery and the proliferation of weapons. Salaam asserted that the state is filled with ammunition and that his 10-point agenda for human development and good governance is the only path to restoring stability.

To secure the upcoming election, the Independent National Electoral Commission has coordinated the deployment of over 25,300 personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Election materials have already arrived in the state capital, Osogbo, to facilitate the Saturday polls.
