Funding mechanisms under consideration include debt, conditional loans, and equity stakes, which could grant the government ownership in the firms. The Pentagon and the Office of Strategic Capital are vetting companies for these investments, with Unusual Machines, Neros Technologies, and Performance Drone Works identified as primary candidates.

News of the negotiations triggered a surge in drone-related stocks, including AeroVironment and Kratos Defense & Security Solutions. However, the potential deal with Unusual Machines is expected to face congressional scrutiny and conflict-of-interest concerns because Donald Trump Jr. serves as a shareholder and advisory board member of the company.
