Pune Police Arrest MNS Workers Over Modi Photo Removal
Pune police arrested two Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers after Amit Thackeray allegedly ordered the removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph from a government college.
Police in Pune, Maharashtra, arrested two workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) following a disturbance at the Government Polytechnic in the Ganeshkhind area. The incident occurred on Monday during a membership drive led by Amit Thackeray, head of the MNS student wing and son of party chief Raj Thackeray.
According to a complaint filed by college official Dr. Rajendra Kashiram Patil, Thackeray and a group of 20 to 25 unidentified students and party workers entered the college office without permission. The group allegedly removed a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was displayed alongside portraits of President Droupadi Murmu, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The complainant stated that the group raised slogans and threatened staff members.
The Chatushringi Police Station registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Maharashtra Police Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. While Thackeray defended the action as part of a political agitation, BJP leader Ganesh Bidkar criticized the move as a violation of government protocol regarding the display of constitutional authorities.
