Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang swore five new Ghanaian envoys into office on August 18, 2026. The appointees, selected by President John Dramani Mahama, include Dr Robert Afriyie for Sierra Leone, Dr Senalor Korblah Yaovi for Norway, Mr Maxwell Nyarko Yartey for Kuwait, Mr Baba Sadiq Abdullai Abu for Nigeria, and Mr Isaac Joshua Ashirifi for Niger.
Opoku-Agyemang charged the diplomats to prioritize economic diplomacy, specifically focusing on trade, investment, and the welfare of Ghanaian citizens living abroad. The Vice President outlined specific strategic goals for the posts, including the expansion of maritime and energy cooperation with Norway and the strengthening of security and stability in the Sahel region through the mission in Niger.
Speaking for the group, Dr Robert Afriyie credited President Mahama for the appointments and pledged that the envoys would pursue the interests of Ghana to the highest degree. In Sierra Leone, the mission is specifically tasked with translating existing joint commission agreements into concrete results.
