Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Sets Opening Date for December 11

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi announced that the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will open on December 11, 2026. Located on Saadiyat Island within the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum is the largest in the Guggenheim network and was designed by the late architect Frank Gehry. The facility features a total built-up area of 80,000 square meters, consisting of 30 galleries, a central atrium, and ten sculptural cones reaching heights of approximately 88 to 90 meters.

The museum provides 11,600 square meters of interior exhibition space and 23,000 square meters of outdoor space. Its collection, assembled since 2009, focuses on modern and contemporary art from 1960 onward. Rather than using linear chronology, the institution will employ a transcultural approach, organizing works around themes such as abstraction, storytelling, and popular culture to bridge artistic histories from West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia with global narratives.

This project is a collaboration between the Abu Dhabi government and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The institution joins other major sites on Saadiyat Island, such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum, in an effort to establish Abu Dhabi as a global capital for the arts.
