China Extends Trade Barrier Probes Into United States
China's Ministry of Commerce extended its investigations into United States trade barriers until December 27, citing the complexity of cases involving high-tech and green products.
The Ministry of Commerce of China extended its trade barrier investigations into United States actions and measures until December 27. Originally launched on March 27, the probes examine U.S. practices that China claims harm global production and supply chains, impede the trade of green products, and gravely harm the trade interests of Chinese enterprises.
Preliminary evidence indicates the investigations focus on restrictions or bans on exporting high-tech products to China and curbs on bilateral investment in key sectors. The ministry is also examining restrictions on green product exports to the United States, delays in the deployment of new energy projects, and limitations on technological cooperation regarding green products.
China alleges that some of these practices may violate World Trade Organization rules as well as other bilateral or multilateral economic and trade agreements. The Ministry of Commerce cited the complexity of the cases as the primary reason for the extension.
