Samsung Electronics Posts Record 62 Billion Dollar Quarterly Profit
Samsung Electronics reported a record second-quarter operating profit of 89.5 trillion won, driven by soaring global demand for AI-related memory chips.
Samsung Electronics reported a record second-quarter operating profit of 89.5 trillion won ($62 billion), marking a surge of approximately 1,814% from the previous year. This performance exceeded market expectations of 84.2 trillion won, with revenue reaching an all-time high of 171.5 trillion won. The growth was primarily fueled by the global agentic AI boom, which drove strong sales of DRAM, NAND, and high-bandwidth memory, including HBM4 and HBM4E samples.
While the semiconductor division reached historic highs, other sectors faced headwinds. The Device Experience division, covering mobile phones and networks, posted an operating loss of roughly 800 billion won due to high component costs, despite strong sales of the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy A series. The TV and home appliance unit also logged a slight operating loss, although it saw revenue growth from air conditioner demand and sporting events.
To stabilize future earnings and address demand that is currently outpacing production, the company is expanding long-term supply agreements with five major global data center clients. Samsung also plans to break ground on a second semiconductor fabrication plant in Taylor, Texas, by the end of 2026, targeting mass production by 2030. Despite the record profits, company shares have remained volatile as investors weigh massive capital expenditures against intensifying competition from China.
