David Hogg Calls for DNC Chairman Ken Martin's Resignation

Gun violence prevention advocate and former DNC vice chair David Hogg called for the resignation of Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin during a televised interview at NPR headquarters. Hogg characterized the party leadership as geriatric and criticized the establishment for using milquetoast messaging that fails to address economic realities or the conflict in Gaza.

The demand for Martin's ouster comes amid reports of a $2 million DNC deficit. Federal filings from late June show the organization holds $16.4 million in cash against more than $18 million in debt, a sharp contrast to the Republican National Committee's $128 million reserve. Other Democratic operatives have echoed Hogg's concerns, citing Martin's poor leadership style and his handling of a 2024 election autopsy report.

Ken Martin defended his tenure in a recent Substack post, claiming the party is ready for the November midterms and has achieved a record fundraising performance for an out-of-power organization. Despite the internal pressure, the DNC has not indicated any intention to replace Martin before the elections. When urged by consultant James Carville to lead the party himself, Hogg declined, stating his work with his organization, Leaders We Deserve, is more impactful than a role within the DNC.
