Indian Markets Rally Amid Tata Sons Boardroom Crisis

Indian equity indices rose Friday on lower oil prices despite a leadership dispute at Tata Sons and continued selling by foreign investors.

Indian benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty, rallied in early trade Friday. The Sensex rose 162.87 points to 74,483.56, and the Nifty increased 43.90 points to 23,315.25, driven by positive global trends and a 0.93 percent drop in Brent crude oil to $103.8 per barrel. Gains were led by HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro, and Bharti Airtel.

Market growth was tempered by a boardroom crisis at Tata Sons. Several Tata Group stocks, including Tata Consultancy Services, traded lower after Tata Trusts declared a resolution to reappoint Natarajan Chandrasekaran as executive chairman void. The conflict follows a vote by directors to grant Chandrasekaran another five-year term.

Broader market sentiment remained cautious due to the hawkish stance of the United States Federal Reserve regarding potential monetary tightening. Additionally, Foreign Institutional Investors continued to offload equities, selling assets worth Rs 3,208.76 crore on Thursday.
