Mike Johnson Claims Midterm Polls Use Faulty Analysis

House Speaker Mike Johnson rejected polling data showing a Democratic lead in the upcoming midterms, arguing that Republicans are being under-sampled by polling organizations.

House Speaker Mike Johnson challenged the accuracy of polling data suggesting Democrats hold an advantage in the upcoming midterm elections during an appearance on Fox News Sunday. Johnson argued that current forecasts rely on "faulty analysis" and claimed that polling organizations have been under-sampling Republicans. To support his claim, he cited a CNN report stating that 14 of the last 16 October polls under-sampled Republicans by an average of four points.

Johnson asserted that Republicans are no longer responding to polls, citing his own experiences at large campaign events where few attendees reported participating in a poll within the last six months. He pointed to high turnout at his events across 21 states and 39 districts over the last three weeks as evidence of strong GOP momentum.

While acknowledging that high gas prices and affordability remain significant issues for Americans, Johnson expressed confidence that voters will trust Republicans to resolve them. His comments follow data from an NBC aggregate and a Silver Bulletin average indicating that Democrats lead on the generic congressional ballot and are favored in several battleground Senate races, including those in Texas, Ohio, and North Carolina.
