East African Breweries Profit Surges 49 Percent to 18.2 Billion Shillings

East African Breweries Plc reported its fastest profit growth in four years and received multi-country regulatory approval for its acquisition by Asahi Group Holdings.

East African Breweries Plc reported an after-tax profit of 18.2 billion shillings ($140.7 million) for the fiscal year ending June 2026. This represents a 49 percent increase, marking the company's fastest growth rate in four years, while net revenue rose by 13 percent. Following these results, the board recommended increasing the dividend per share by 59 percent to 12.70 shillings.

Group Managing Director Jane Karuku attributed the financial success to growth in volume and revenue across specific countries and categories. The company achieved these gains despite economic headwinds, including Kenyan inflation that reached 6.7 percent in May.

Separately, Asahi Group Holdings is progressing with a $2.3 billion acquisition of a 65 percent stake in the company from Diageo Plc. The deal has received unconditional regulatory approval from the Capital Markets Authority in Kenya, as well as authorities in Uganda and Tanzania. A final review by the Competition Authority of Kenya remains pending.
