Brunei Launches National Digital Identity System
The Government of Brunei launched the Brunei Identiti Digital system to provide citizens and residents with biometric electronic personal identification.
The Government of Brunei launched a national digital identity system, known as Brunei Identiti Digital (Brunei ID), on January 4, 2026. Developed through a partnership between the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications and the Ministry of Home Affairs, the system provides citizens and residents with a secure electronic form of personal identification.
The platform utilizes a single login mechanism featuring biometric authentication. To maintain security and privacy, the system processes this biometric data locally on the user's device rather than on a central server. The initiative is designed to improve national digital governance and simplify user access to government digital services.
Officials intend to integrate additional government services into the platform in phases. This rollout is designed to align with the country's national digital economy framework and broader public service digital transformation goals.
