OPEC+ Delays 2027 Oil Production Capacity Review
OPEC+ postponed its review of member oil production capacity to mid-November after regional conflict disrupted expansion projects and data collection.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries Plus has delayed its review of member oil production capacity, a process used to determine output quotas for 2027. Originally due by the end of September 2026, the assessment is now expected to conclude by mid-November.
The delay results from the US-Israeli war on Iran, which disrupted capacity expansion projects across the Middle East and created uncertainty regarding future production estimates. Some member countries have failed to submit the data required for the assessment.
This postponement complicates a politically sensitive process where capacity estimates directly influence individual member quotas. Producers with lower assessed capacity may face pressure for lower quotas, while those who expanded capacity typically seek higher allocations. The situation follows the departure of the United Arab Emirates from the alliance in May after pushing for higher quotas, while Iraq continues efforts to secure similar increases.
