Samsung Unveils AI Smart Glasses at Galaxy Unpacked

During the Galaxy Unpacked event in London, Samsung Electronics unveiled its first AI-powered smart glasses, marking its entry into a market currently led by Meta. Developed in collaboration with Google, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster, the display-free eyewear runs on the Android XR platform and utilizes Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipsets.

The devices integrate Google Gemini and Samsung Bixby AI to provide real-time guidance, live translation, and message summarization, with the ability to organize captured visual data into Samsung Notes. Samsung claims the glasses offer a nine-hour battery life—one hour longer than Meta's latest models—and include a charging case that provides seven additional charges. To mitigate privacy concerns, the hardware includes a recording LED that disables the camera if the light is blocked.

James Choi, Samsung's head of XR R&D, described the glasses as a premium offering and noted that the company is exploring gesture controls via the Galaxy Ring and Samsung smartwatches. While frame styles from partners were showcased, the company has not yet announced pricing or a global release date, though the glasses are scheduled for release in select markets this fall.
