Romania's Foreign Reserves Drop as Euro Hits Record High

The National Bank of Romania reported a significant decline in the country's foreign exchange reserves, excluding gold, which fell to 60.06 billion euros by the end of September 2026. This figure represents a decrease of 4.8 billion euros from the 64.86 billion euros recorded on August 31, 2026.
Following the reserve announcement, the central bank set the reference exchange rate for the euro at 5.3447 lei on October 2, 2026. This marked a steep increase from the previous day's rate of 5.2777 lei, pushing the euro to its highest value against the national currency.
