Manchin warned that adopting socialist demands would jeopardize U.S. energy production. His daughter, Heather Manchin, appeared on the program to criticize Democratic Party leadership, claiming that the party has prioritized maintaining control over the character and platforms of its candidates.

These statements follow a trend of success for candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America in primary elections, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The tension comes amid a July Fox News poll showing that 52% of Democrats view socialism more favorably than capitalism.
