Odisha Election Authorities Remove 20 Lakh Ineligible Voters
The Government of Odisha removed approximately 20 lakh ineligible entries from its draft electoral roll to ensure a transparent and inclusive voter database.
The Government of Odisha published a draft electoral roll on July 5, 2026, removing approximately 20 lakh ineligible entries. The cleanup effort targeted several categories of invalid registrations to maintain the integrity of the state's electoral database.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sushanta Kumar Mishra detailed the specific exclusions, which include 8.32 lakh deceased voters, 10.07 lakh voters who have shifted or are permanently absent, and 1.58 lakh duplicate registrations. An additional 14,000 voters were removed because their enumeration forms were not received.
Eligible citizens have until August 4 to file claims or objections regarding their status. Authorities have scheduled hearings to address these disputes by September 2. The state intends to publish the final verified electoral roll on September 6.
