Germany Industrial Production Grows 0.9 Percent in May
Germany's industrial production grew by 0.9 percent in May 2026, led by a surge in the automotive industry and construction output.
Germany reported a 0.9 percent increase in industrial production for May 2026, surpassing market expectations of a 0.1 to 0.2 percent rise. According to data from the Statistisches Bundesamt, known as Destatis, this growth represents the fastest pace of expansion since September.
The automotive industry drove the recovery with a 3.6 percent surge, while construction output grew by 0.9 percent. Other positive contributors included capital goods production, which rose 1.3 percent, consumer goods, which increased 1.2 percent, and energy production, which ticked up 0.8 percent.
Despite these gains, the production of intermediate goods declined by 0.4 percent. On a yearly basis, output remained flat in May, following a 0.9 percent decrease recorded in April.
