Baylis & Harding Recalls Hand Wash Over Bacterial Contamination

The brand Baylis & Harding issued an urgent recall for its Oud, Cedar & Amber 1L Hand Wash Refill after testing identified the presence of Pluralibacter gergoviae, an anaerobic bacteria. The recall specifically affects batch codes 6210A and 6211A. Major retailers, including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Ocado, and Amazon, are removing the product from shelves and requesting that customers return the items for a full refund.

The Office for Product Safety & Standards warned that the contamination poses a microbiological risk that could lead to infection or adverse health effects, particularly for vulnerable users or those with a compromised skin barrier. The agency further stated that the product fails to meet the requirements of the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.

Consumers are advised to stop using the affected batches immediately and return them to the place of purchase for redress. The manufacturer has confirmed that no other products from the brand are affected by this issue.
