APC Accuses Atiku Abubakar of AI Disinformation Campaign
The All Progressives Congress accused Atiku Abubakar and the ADC of using deepfakes and forged documents to discredit a campaign rally in Kaduna.
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of orchestrating a disinformation campaign to undermine the launch of President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna on October 24, 2026.
Spokesperson Dele Alake alleged that the opposition utilized artificial intelligence, deepfake videos, and counterfeit documents to manipulate public opinion. The APC-PCC cited the misrepresentation of a routine security patrol as billboard protection and the circulation of a forged letter claiming Governor Uba Sani released N2.3 trillion for the rally. The council noted this figure exceeds the combined state budgets for 2024, 2025, and 2026.
The Government of Kaduna State formally disowned the document, with Commissioner for Information and Culture Ahmed Maiyaki describing it as a fraudulent fabrication. Maiyaki pointed to irregularities in the letter, including the misspelling of the governor's name as "Uba Sai" and the unauthorized use of his signature. He noted the claim was financially impossible, as the alleged amount is more than double the state's total 2026 budget of N985.92 billion.
Kaduna state authorities are now calling on investigative agencies to identify the authors of the document for forgery and impersonation. The APC-PCC warned that further doctored videos would be released during the event to simulate public resentment.
