Banks Deploy AI Voice Agents to Automate Customer Service
Financial institutions are integrating AI voice agents and avatars to handle customer service and data collection through partnerships with specialized AI firms.
Financial institutions are increasingly deploying AI voice agents to automate customer service and data collection. In 2026, Alpha Bank in Greece implemented a voice agent developed in partnership with ElevenLabs Inc., while Ajman Bank PJSC launched the first AI banking avatar in the Middle East and North Africa region through a partnership with SESTEK.
These systems utilize two primary technical approaches. Cascaded pipelines combine speech-to-text, large language models, and text-to-speech. Alternatively, newer speech-to-speech models, such as those from OpenAI and xAI, natively generate audio to reduce latency and better preserve nuance.
Despite the fluidity of speech-to-speech models, they currently cost ten times more than cascaded systems. Because they also offer engineers less control, some AI-native firms continue to prefer cascaded architectures to ensure reliability during complex tool use.
