Anthropic Launches Claude Corps and Files for U.S. IPO

Anthropic has launched Claude Corps, a $150 million initiative to embed 1,000 AI fellows within more than 400 U.S. nonprofit organizations. Managed in partnership with CodePath, the program provides fellows with an $85,000 annual salary and grants host organizations $10,000 plus free Claude credits to integrate AI into their operations. The first cohort of 100 fellows begins in October 2026. Alongside this, the company announced a separate $200 million donation to study and support workers displaced by AI adoption.

These philanthropic efforts coincide with aggressive business expansion and a confidential filing for a U.S. initial public offering. The company, recently valued at $965 billion, plans to lease and manage its own data centers in the United States, signing over a dozen preliminary agreements for capacity exceeding 1 GW. Executives are discussing a financial guarantee from Google for these lease payments, as Google also co-designs server chips for the facilities.

While leadership frames these moves as part of its mandate as a public benefit corporation, the Institute of Policy Studies criticized the strategy, arguing that AI companies cannot be responsible for their own regulation. Other critics suggest the fellowship is a distribution tactic to create long-term dependency on Anthropic's ecosystem.
