British Gas Launches Plug-in Solar Units in United Kingdom

British Gas has launched the first legally compliant plug-in solar units for sale in the United Kingdom. These compact units are designed for use on balconies, patios, and gardens, allowing renters and flat-dwellers who lack rooftop access to generate electricity by connecting the panels directly to household sockets.

To promote the launch, the company is hosting a competition to give away 30 units valued at approximately £500 each. These units can save households up to £110 annually. Minister for Local Energy and Jobs McCluskey stated that the panels require no installation cost and can provide up to 20% of average home electricity use.

Eligible customers will soon be able to receive payments for exporting surplus electricity back to the grid. John Evans of British Gas noted that the product provides an alternative for those who previously lacked the right roof or the capital for a significant upfront investment.
