Israel Denies Mistreatment of Hospital Director Amid Gaza Strike
Israel's mission to UN institutions in Geneva defended the detention of Hussam Abu Safiya while the Israeli military struck the hospital he previously directed.
Israel's mission to UN institutions in Geneva has denied allegations that Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital and an alleged Hamas Colonel, is being harmed in custody. The mission asserts that Abu Safiya is lawfully detained and under continuous medical supervision with no life-threatening condition. Israeli officials further claim he exploited the hospital to divert humanitarian resources for terrorist purposes.
These denials follow reports from Abu Safiya's lawyer, Nasser Odeh, and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, who claim the doctor is in a critical state and facing systematic torture, including his transfer to the Rakafet Prison. United Nations experts have also demanded his immediate release, citing life-threatening risks.
Simultaneously, the Israel Defense Forces struck the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, wounding six people, including three civilians and three maintenance workers. The Palestinian Ministry of Health condemned the strike as part of a systematic targeting of health facilities. Other military operations on July 10 included drone strikes in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City and gunfire near the Bureij refugee camp.
