Leaked Specs Show Xbox Project Helix Outperforming PlayStation 6

Leaked specifications for the next-generation gaming consoles from Microsoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment suggest a late 2027 release window. Industry insider Kepler_L2 reports that both systems have completed the silicon design process, known as tape-out, with production of AMD chipsets scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. Both consoles will utilize AMD's RDNA 5 GPU architecture, though they differ in raw power.

Microsoft's Project Helix, confirmed as a hybrid PC and console system, is rumored to feature 56 TFLOPS of compute performance, 10 Zen 6 CPU cores, and a dedicated NPU for AI operations. In contrast, the PlayStation 6 is expected to deliver 40 TFLOPS and utilize eight Zen 6 cores, though it may offer superior ray tracing and AI compute capabilities.

Rising component costs, particularly for memory, are expected to drive retail prices higher. The PlayStation 6 may retail for approximately $699, while Project Helix could cost between $999 and $1,200 due to its larger silicon footprint and Microsoft's support for open third-party storefronts. While alpha hardware for Project Helix is slated for developers in 2027, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki stated that PlayStation 6 launch plans remain undecided due to global memory shortages.
